What does our Direct Tax technology team do?

The Direct Tax Technology team delivers and manages digital solutions which revolutionise the tax environment. Direct tax spans several key areas including Private Client Services, Corporate Tax, and Employment Solutions. These areas all employ uniquely complex processes and calculations, which provide the ideal opportunity to deliver enhancements through technology.

Tax Technology covers a wide variety of projects, across all areas of the business – both internally and externally. We input on technically complex projects across multiple teams and deliver process enhancements through automation to build the business of the future.

Team members are technically upskilled in the latest market-leading technology tools such as Alteryx and Power BI to be able to automate processes, develop apps, and create dashboards.

We enable our people to rapidly react, deploy and take advantage of new technologies by embedding the skills, processes, and toolsets that will empower our people to innovate and change the way we work.

Our In-house solutions aim to improve the day-to-day workings of colleagues within the business and will often involve a range of stakeholders from across the firm. Client-facing solutions include the development of apps/dashboards that clients can use directly, software implementation, and the delivery of bespoke process enhancements.

RSM recognises the strategic importance of technology to the future of tax and is investing heavily in digital skills to better serve the needs of our clients and people.

    What can you expect?

A tax technology role combines specialist knowledge of systems, processes, and technology with a broad understanding of business activities across a range of tax areas.

You will be a fundamental part of the firm’s future from day one, getting involved in a range of engagements from day one. You will be provided with the opportunities and support to develop a successful career as a tax technology advisor.

The variety of work we do and the range of clients we work with means you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discover a career path that fits your interests and long-term goals. With our support, you’ll have the space to grow professionally so you can confidently take on ever-more challenging tasks.

When you join the team, you’ll work towards your ATT qualification with the Association of Taxation Technicians. You’ll be further supported with your learning and development by means of a CTT qualification and/or an MSc in Data and Analytics (subject to course prerequisites being met).

A combination of internal and external training courses will be provided, covering the various technologies and methodologies used by the team, including data analytics, machine learning, data visualisation, as well as software and vendor specific training.

As you come towards the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have a deeper understanding of tax technology. This will be reflected in the complexity of your client portfolio and your responsibilities, including mentoring more junior members of the team.

    What we look for

Both tax and IT are technically demanding disciplines, so we look for graduates who are always up for a challenge and are quick to grasp new practices. Whilst you don’t have to be a maths genius, you will need to be comfortable with numbers and the application of logic.

At RSM, you’ll be helping a big range of clients - from smaller owner-managed businesses to FTSE100 multinationals - so it’s important that you’re adaptable.

Being able to interpret and analyse large datasets, being resourceful and creative in overcoming challenges, and thinking out of the box are important attributes. We look for team players who enjoy interacting with others and are curious about how businesses work.

If that sounds like you, we know you’ll enjoy being part of our team.

    Flexible Working

At RSM we work hard to create an environment where our people can make a difference - to themselves, their career, their teams, and to the success of our firm and clients. We support all our people to work flexibly, and to manage their family and other responsibilities alongside their work commitments; we believe this is key to achieving an inspiring and fulfilling working environment.

    Diversity and Inclusion at RSM

At RSM, inclusion and diversity are central to our values. We have an authentic focus on intentional inclusion, enabling our people to feel they can bring their whole self to work and ensuring everyone feels supported, respected and confident to make a valuable contribution.

    Our Recruitment Process

Please note, for those who perform well throughout our assessment process, should your first preference be unavailable, you could potentially be offered a role in another location or department. This would always be discussed with you in this instance.

RSM will only take one application into consideration per recruitment cycle. We do not accept multiple applications to different vacancies.
