    What does our Strategy, Economics and Policy Consulting team do?

    RSM’s SEP consulting team works predominantly with public sector clients to provide evidence for effective government policy making and public investment decisions. We complete mixed methods research, evaluation and analysis that has an impact on the economy and society more widely. Through the evidence-based recommendations we make, we help improve the effectiveness of public policy, programmes and practice.

    We are a team of 60+ economists, data analysts, statisticians, evaluation experts, and social researchers working across all areas of public policy. Our recent projects include evaluations of pilot NHS programmes to improve patient care and achieve cost savings for the NHS; studies into what affects house building rates in England; examining the impact of placed-based grant programmes for various central government departments; research into the commercialisation of intellectual property produced in the university sector; and cluster analysis in the cyber-security industry to name just a few.

    Our Graduate Quantitative Analysts / Statisticians are responsible for

    • Maintaining RSM's high level of service and values, taking responsibility for ensuring timely delivery of quality research outputs to clients.
    • Working on small to medium sized consultancy projects, with responsibility for tasks such as conducting statistical analysis, survey analysis, implementing modelling, data science, advanced analytical methods and advanced quantitative analysis for evaluation.
    • Contributing to reports and deliverables, drafting reports and producing charts and maps using software on which you will be trained.
    • Your own career development plan, setting out personal objectives, marketing your skills and expertise internally to proposal managers and externally to clients, and achieving individual performance targets (utilisation and business development).
    • Working with RSM colleagues to devise and implement a business development plan, making best use of RSM Marketing and Business Development resources and to raise awareness of RSM’s services.
    • Assisting with proposal responses to tender specifications issued by government clients in a timely and robust manner.
    • Developing client relationships and achieving positive client testimonials for the delivery of high-quality work.

    What can you expect?

    RSM’s early digital careers programme offers a range of informal and formal development opportunities. From day one, you will join with trainees across the firm to receive core training in professional and soft skills. Alongside this you will benefit from specific technology skills training focussed on our digital and data services, for example Agile project delivery, as well as learning how to use our core tools, including Alteryx and Power BI. We will also support business related qualifications where this is relevant and beneficial to your role.

    Following your basic enablement, you’ll join colleagues in delivering live client engagements. No two journeys will be the same, as each client experience is different, but you’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced members of the team and understand how digital and data projects are delivered. This hands-on experience is invaluable as you take the next steps in your career.

    We’re on the lookout for students with a passion for digital and a ‘can-do’ attitude who are prepared to work hard and take on high levels of responsibility. We also look for team players who enjoy interacting with others and are curious about how digital technology can generate real benefit for businesses. As a digital advocate, you will be expected to share your knowledge and insights with your colleagues and clients and help them embrace the opportunities and challenges of the digital era.

    You may be working on multiple projects at the same time, so time management and organisational skills are key. Confidence with numbers and a passion for analytics and statistics is a must as you will often spend time analysing quantitative data while conducting economic research, but you’ll also need excellent communication skills and be able to forge strong working relationships with people from all backgrounds. Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is essential.

    Our Recruitment Process

    Please note, for those who perform well throughout our assessment process, should your first preference be unavailable, you could potentially be offered a role in another location or department. This would always be discussed with you in this instance.

    Entry requirements

    At RSM, we don't just look for good exam results. We think passion, personality and originality are just as important.

    You will need:

    • 112 UCAS (new tariff) across 3 A Levels or an equivalent level 3 qualification or 104 UCAS (new tariff) across 4 Scottish Highers/Advanced Highers.
    • A predicted or obtained honours degree.

    Please note, RSM does not accept General Studies, AS levels or the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
