The primary objective this role is to provide an Intern with tasks and responsibilities that develop professional skills, provide real-world work experience, and that provide opportunities to contribute to team and/project goals.

Intern roles are performed in a variety of different functional areas, such as translation/linguistics and software engineering. The Key Responsibilities outline the typical types of responsibilities performed by Interns. The Job Specific Responsibilities outline specific tasks that are performed within each function.

Key responsibilities

Performs basic responsibilities that help him/her learn about the job and function and contributes to achieving team goals. Works on tasks with guidance and supervision from a senior team member or project team.

May assist in performing more complex tasks as a way to learn and support the work done by a senior team member or project team. Some common areas of responsibility:

  • Learns and applies processes, techniques, methodologies utilizing academic knowledge (e.g., programming/coding, testing/quality checking, translation, review/editing, use of technology).
  • Learns about the function, its purpose, business drivers and how the function contributes to the overall organization. Uses this information to better understand their tasks and how they contribute to team goals.
  • Learns skills essential to working independently and as part of a team.
  • Seeks guidance and support from team members on how to approach their work, as well as seeks feedback on how they are doing (e.g., effective communications, clarifying assignments, team work, quality and responsiveness.)

Translation intern

  • Attends applicable training sessions and ensuring information is assimilated and actioned
  • Completes the applicable internship programme modules
  • Translates/post-edits a variety of text types from the relevant source languages into various flavours of English
  • Completes source/target review of translations from a variety of text types
  • Completes any other linguistic tasks as requested (e.g. LSO; target-only review; conversion)
  • Consistently works to defined productivity metrics for all linguistic tasks
  • Achieves the specified productivity & utilisation targets
  • Adheres to the appropriate quality standards for all tasks Job Profile
  • Uses the relevant SDL tools & technology to optimum effect and adopting a proactive approach to learning about tools & technology
  • Proactively learns from all linguistic feedback provided and ensuring continuous personal growth
  • Adheres to the appropriate SDL & English Network Office processes and procedures in all instances
  • Makes an active contribution to the performance of the assigned vertical team in the first instance and the English Network Office in a wider sense
