Scotiabank Ireland is offering a fantastic opportunity to gain hands on experience within our Global Banking and Markets Summer Internship programme commencing in June 2023.

    The Role

This 10-week Internship is aimed at students in either their penultimate or final year of study who are keen to learn and have a curiosity in the financial markets.

The programme allows the interns to rotate across multiple areas, giving them the opportunity to gain insight into the daily workings of the following Global Banking and Markets divisions:

    • Fixed Income Trading and Sales
    • FX Trading and Sales
    • CMF: Collateral Management Funding
    • Emerging Market Sales
    • Debt Capital Markets
    • Global Equities including Prime Services

What can you expect from the Summer Internship?

    • Shadowing traders to learn risk management techniques, and develop key trading/market making skills
    • Shadowing sales who cover global clients including official institutions, bank treasury desks, global asset managers, pension funds and alternative asset managers
    • Providing a solutions-based coverage model including cash, interest rate derivatives, inflation derivatives, options, FX, repo and bespoke structured solutions across a variety of different currencies
    • Interacting with stakeholders to develop a strong understanding of the global markets and products, with the opportunity to apply knowledge to real world situations
    • Completing projects set by the team which includes preparing market commentary, analysing client trading data, and other ad hoc tasks.

In addition to the individual rotations, interns will be expected to present to leaders within Capital Markets on a project of their choice. The project should be relevant to a rotation they have completed and show an understanding of a theme/topic that the intern has an affinity for.

Interns will also be given the opportunity to work on a CSR project alongside one of our chosen charities in either raising money or working on a challenge benefiting that particular charity.

Upon completion of the internship, exceptional interns will be considered for entry into our full time Global Capital Markets Graduate Programme, where they will continue on the rotational scheme with the goal of obtaining a permanent position within the Global Banking and Markets division.

The Graduate Programme also includes an international rotation, travel rules permitting, to gain experience in an alternative Scotiabank location.

Unlike other graduate programmes, Scotiabank aims to give successful candidates responsibilities far greater than other programmes to enhance the pace of learning versus their industry peers.
