Scottish Enterprise is Scotland’s economic development agency. We’re committed to growing the Scottish economy for the benefit of all, helping create more quality jobs and a brighter future for every region. Scottish Development International (SDI) helps international companies invest and thrive in Scotland and supports Scottish companies to trade in global markets.
This role sits within the Strategy, Planning and Propositions team, which is part of the wider Global Investment team in SDI. It’s an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of Scotland’s trade and investments and make a critical contribution to our future economy.
The Role
Working as part of a wider team of investment and lead-generation specialists, you’ll research and develop materials that present Scotland’s key investment propositions to future investors. You’ll also support senior colleagues to develop propositions for new investors and new projects from existing investors. As the role develops, you’ll go on to research new investor targets, looking for specific opportunities and contacts for engagement.
In turn, we’ll support you to develop your skills in communicating with business audiences and learning about early-stage sales and business development. This includes understanding investor motivations, writing effective pitches using an appropriate tone of voice, and undertaking company and industry research. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the production and upkeep of a suite of proposition materials that cover a number of sectors, subsectors, themes and projects – including PDF brochures, presentations, and digital assets such as animations and infographics
- Working with senior colleagues to research and identify appropriate assets, statistics and facts to support key messages
- Working with Global Investment colleagues, stakeholders and partners to support the business development phase of the inward sales cycle
- Supporting team members in the design of digital solutions to support proposition work and by providing data and insights for international business development specialists
- Researching and sharing insights and news about competitors and potential new target investors
Who were looking for
We’re seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated team player who has a Business or Marketing-related degree or is very competent in communications, strategy development, marketing and business development. Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Qualifications or skills and experience at SCQF Level 9 as a minimum (for example, a BA or Ordinary Degree, Graduate Diploma or SVQ at SCQF Level 9) in Business or Marketing
- Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how different channels, including social media, target different audiences
- The ability to work as part of a team in a virtual working environment — listening to and offering ideas, and contributing to project work
- Excellent networking and relationship management skills
- Strong writing skills to deliver high-quality materials and an ability to understand and respond to a brief
- Good IT skills, with experience using PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- The ability to work on your own initiative to meet deadlines
- Excellent time management skills, with the resilience to balance multiple projects at once
Ideally, but not essentially, you’ll also have:
- Research and analytical skills, including the ability to spot trends and analyse information across various sources
