    Every year, Scottish Water is pleased to host a variety of summer internship programmes, open to university students in the penultimate year of their degree programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your studies and challenge yourself to develop your practical skills in line with your future career aspirations.

    We are delighted this year to be able to offer a 12-week Summer Internship from June to September 2023, specialising in Civil Engineering.

    What might life look like as a Civil Engineering Intern?

    Scottish Water’s Summer Internship scheme will give you a taste of what it feels like to work in one of the largest water companies in the world.

    This role will be located in the Central Belt but with the ability to work from home. As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will work with the Reservoir Engineering Team and will achieve an insight and experience into our approach for managing reservoir safety across Scotland.

    You may be involved in:

    • Dam inspections and site visits
    • Analysing dam performance and compliance information
    • Supporting the development of capital projects
    • Improvement initiatives
    • Records management and process development

    What does a successful candidate look like?

    To be eligible to apply for this internship programme you will be a penultimate year student (for example in your third year of a four-year course, or in your fourth year but going on to study a master’s degree).

    You will be studying towards a degree in Civil Engineering and have an understanding of structures, geotechnics, hydraulics and hydrology. You will have good analytical and communication skills and be able to work effectively within a team as well as an individual.
