Every year, Scottish Water is pleased to host a variety of summer internship programmes, open to university students in the penultimate year of their degree programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity to apply your studies and challenge yourself to develop your practical skills in line with your future career aspirations.
We are delighted this year to be able to offer a 12-week Summer Internship from June to September 2023, specialising in Process Engineering.
What might life look like as a Process Engineering Intern?
Scottish Water’s Summer Internship scheme will give you a taste of what it feels like to work in one of the largest water companies in the world.
This role will be located in the Central Belt, with opportunity to spread working between main offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow (Stepps) and from home. There will also be opportunity to attend operational WTW sites to support the work.
As a Process Engineering Intern, you will learn about current standards applied by Scottish water for the specification and design of water treatment works and the challenge of apply these to legacy sites and technologies. You will have the opportunity to work with Scottish Water’s process engineering specialists, audit operational WTWs against current requirements, and develop lean processes for the management of this key technical dataset.
You may be involved in:
- Visiting and auditing the technical compliance of equipment at operational WTW sites.
- Understanding and interpreting SWs Requirements Catalogue.
- Reviewing water quality data to assess WTW performance.
- Developing good practice recommendation for related information/ knowledge management.
What does a successful candidate look like?
To be eligible to apply for this internship programme you will be a penultimate year student (for example in your third year of a four-year course, or in your fourth year but going on to study a master’s degree).
You will be studying towards a degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
