Our energy landscape is going through a time of profound change. A challenge touching every part of our society, we need to eradicate carbon emissions to halt the effects of climate change. We need to change how we live our lives and replace the use of fossil fuels for transport and heat.
Electricity will be at the heart of the solution, through electric vehicles and heat pumps. And with more renewables generation and other technologies connected to the electricity grid than ever before, it’s our role to make sure we create a more efficient, cleaner, greener network to accommodate this increase in demand.
Within SP Energy Networks >, we are focusing on harnessing technology and innovation to create the networks of the future. With distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it’s vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour. Through technology and innovation, we will enable a consumer-led revolution in the use and operation of our system. It will undergo the biggest changes to its design and operation for over half a century; and you can be part of it.
What you’ll be doing
Net Zero is always at the forefront of our minds. Electricity demand, generation, and consumer behaviour is changing rapidly. Our transmission and distribution business are going through an electricity revolution. So, our work is crucial to achieving Net Zero; and through investment in innovation, we’re transforming our business to deliver smarter and cleaner technology to create the network of the future. You, our Engineers, will help to shape this goal by bringing our ambitions to life.
As an engineer within our SP Energy Networks business, you are our ambassador of change. With so many exciting and evolving projects, you will benefit from exposure to a variety of different projects streams, providing you with a great launchpad for your engineering career. You might be working on our South West Scotland Connections Project >, connecting rural renewables generation to the transmission system so we can get the electricity to where it is most needed. Or one of our Green Recovery Projects Or you could be working on Eastern Link >, our subsea cable project – one of the longest underwater HVDC links in the world. Our diverse portfolio of projects means you’ll have a clear view of the big picture – and we know you’ll bring great ideas for re-framing it! We want you to drive outstanding innovation through creative ideas to help us deliver a smarter and more sustainable network for our customers.
As part of Iberdrola, we’re one of the world’s largest integrated utility companies and world leader in wind energy. That means we're able to offer a selection of our engineering graduates the chance to be part of a global programme, giving you the unique opportunity to undertake a placement in one of our Iberdrola locations! You could spend several months in Iberdrola in Spain, Avangrid in the USA, or one of our other Iberdrola group locations. What better way to kick start your career in clean energy than gaining experiences and building networks of colleagues from around the world?
