The Legal Team plays an important role in helping the ScottishPower business to deliver its investment programme, implement its business objectives and continue to contribute to the delivery of our Net Zero goals.

    What you’ll be doing

    As a Trainee Solicitor, you will undertake a legal training contract with one of the largest organisations in the UK where you'll embark on our bespoke training contract which meets the requirements of the Law Society of Scotland, allowing you to qualify as a solicitor on successful completion on your traineeship. Throughout the contract, you'll gain hands-on experience and develop a deep understanding of the legal challenges and opportunities within the energy industry. Working alongside various teams you'll engage in meaningful work, supporting our legal team in various legal matters and projects.

    You will undertake placements within our three UK businesses (Networks, Renewables and Customer), along with our corporate area and will also have the opportunity to undertake an external secondment. The traineeship will provide you with the opportunity to experience several different legal disciplines including property, planning and environmental law, commercial contracts, construction law, energy regulation, public law, merger and aquisition, energy projects and litigation.

    You'll have the unique opportunity to rotate around various businesses, gaining valuable knowledge and experience across the different legal disciplines which are relevant to our business. You will also help to ensure compliance with the governance processes applicable to ScottishPower, including all corporate policies, best practices and information requirements in force throughout the Group, and assist in their implementation and application.

    What you’ll bring

    To excel in this role, you'll need an honours degree in Scots law (LL.B.) (or equivalent), demonstrating a strong academic foundation in key legal principles. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to effectively engage with stakeholders and contribute to the success of our legal team. An interest in the energy sector, a strong focus on delivering first-class customer service and adding value is also important. You should have a desire to develop your ability to persuade, challenge, influence and build credibility at all levels and within all functions of the organisation. Your passion for law and commitment to excellence will drive your professional growth and contribute to the achievement of our Net Zero goals.
