The role
You will be working with engineers on projects that involve design, fabrication and characterisation of devices and developing test best practice, with goal to improve device performance. You will have opportunities to take advantage of ‘on the job’ training and real-world experience of optical/photonic device test and performance analysis.
You will be a highly motivated team player with a science background and will be able to demonstrate a strong aptitude in their relative discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with strong background in optics, photonics or semiconductor devices, particularly candidates with direct experience with Lithium Niobate waveguides.
You will work as part of an established team reporting to the Research & Development Manager defining and driving leading edge technologies for future data storage technologies and products. What you'll do
We have an exciting opportunity for a Research & Development Intern wishing to take on a 3-month placement in a high-tech industrial environment, commencing in March 2023. The successful candidate will join our team based in Springtown.
You will:
- You will be part of a team developing and characterising new materials to be included into new product designs for Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) head technology.
- Carry out literature research to identify new innovative processes /designs to integrate into HAMR heads.
- The specific area of interest for this internship is around the use of Lithium Niobate as a potential material within a waveguiding / optical isolator structure.
About you
- You will currently be studying towards a PhD qualification involving the use of Lithium Niobate for photonic/optical applications, e.g. optical isolators, waveguides.
- The successful candidate will have strong teamwork qualities as well as communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a cross functional team environment.
Your experience includes
- Currently undertaking a PhD in Material Science/Physics, preference will be given to PhD projects involving the use of Lithium Niobate waveguides/optical isolators.
