Summer Placements

As the Summer Placement Scheme and Graduate Development Scheme seamlessly align, our Graduate and Student Development Team hosts a select number of exclusive events that are open to SPs.
Engineering & Maintenance Summer Placement: Sellafield, Cumbria.
As a Summer Placement Student within the Engineering & Maintenance Profession, you will spend 10 weeks in Central Reliability, Plant facing or Equipment Programme area. This will support you in developing technical knowledge and behavioural skills.
Your performance will be tracked with regular check ins.
You will feel strong sense of inclusion from day 1 of joining your team. You will be given the opportunity to get involved in projects, or roles in parallel to the work you deliver in your placements, give back to the community through social impact and STEM activities, and work on your personal development.
The work you will be involved in, is directly aligned to UK SPEC supporting progression towards EngTech and IEng. You will be provided with a professionally registered Technical Mentor who will support you not only on summer placement, but throughout your career at Sellafield Ltd, should you return as a Graduate Trainee.

We are looking for
- Students currently enrolled at university studying to towards a degree in the following subjects: Engineering disciplines including Chemical/Process, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical.
- Those working towards achieving a 2:2 classification or above.
- Those with a strong commitment to personal and professional development.
- Candidate with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Those with enthusiasm to learn about the nuclear industry and contribute to the Sellafield mission.
- Preference for students who will be heading into their final year of study following completion of the placement, but not essential.
Please note: Working at Sellafield Ltd requires you to achieve both security and medical clearance throughout the on-boarding process.
What you will receive in return
For Summer Placement students your competitive salary will be dependent on what age you are when you join us and be pro rata over the 10 weeks you’re with us. You’ll also receive holiday allowance that reflects your length of employment with us.
- Ages 18-20: £16,000 pro-rata
- Ages 21-22: £22,000 pro-rata
- Ages 23 and over: £23,000 pro-rata
Following a successful summer placement with us, you may secure a place on our well-respected graduate programme before you have even completed your degree.

Online assessments and video interview stages will take place throughout November, December, and January.
*Please note, if you are unable to attend a virtual assessment during these months you may be unable to complete our application process.
Expected start date: June/July 2024.
