Semtech’s passive optical network (PON) electronic Product applications team is a group of talented, friendly, and highly motivated engineers with broad technical experience and good people skills. We are the main connection between the internal Semtech engineers and the customer engineers, ensuring that our products are world class and provide world class engineering support to the customers.
We help steer the products Semtech design, design reference PCBs to showcase the products along with lab testing, datasheet creation and test reports. The team provide a lot of expertise to the internal chip design team to ensure the products Semtech designs are fit for purpose.
Job summary
The Application Intern will help test a chip that is in our NPI flow, learn how optical systems work, how to test them using lab grade instrumentation, how to design test PCBs and automate tests using Python. The soft skills that will be learned are how to plan your work, document and present your results to the internal team.
Responsibilities
- Perform lab tests as instructed by mentor engineer, where appropriate, write a plan and then subsequent report on the results. Present findings back to the team.
- Learn the basics of optical components, how to test these.
- Learn how optical components interface to electronic components.
- Learn how to use lab equipment safely (ESD) and effectively to assess whether the device under test is performing to expectations.
- Learn Python language, how to write code that is clear and maintainable to be able to automate lab tests performed on the Apps optical PCBs.
Minimum qualifications
- 1 or 2 years into an electronics/electrical or combined mechanical/electronics engineering degree.
- Demonstrable time management and ability to organize and deliver good quality work.
- Positive and friendly attitude.
- Excellent team-player who positively interacts and shares knowledge.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Capable of self-study/training/learning.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
