Sepura is at the forefront of mission critical communications. Our market leading advanced radios^ are specifically designed to help customers all over the world do their jobs better. The product definition engineer plays a key role in this by ensuring our products behave as customers require.

^Note: An advanced radio is a cross between a walkie-talkie and a mobile phone. They are typically used by emergency services, transport, mining, and other sectors.

In this post-graduate role you will be part of Sepura’s Product Definition team. You will be provided on the job training to help define the detailed behaviour of Sepura's advanced radio products. You will be writing feature specification documents that inform the designs of software engineers and the plans of system testers. As you build knowledge and experience you will work with a variety of business stakeholders including, Product Managers, Senior Development Engineers, System Testers, Customer Support Engineers, and the wider business to:

  • understand product requirements
  • develop the requirements into a definition of product behaviour
  • document the behaviour on behalf of business stakeholders
  • maintain the documentation and incorporate change

In time you will become the custodian of the developed requirements, disseminate them to stakeholders throughout the organisation, and become one of the go-to knowledge experts on our products and features. You will assist Product Owners (who are also part of our team), helping them understand product functionality.

Experience and skills

Essential

  • A relevant degree
  • A can-do attitude

Desired

  • At least one degree module involving embedded software development, or an active hobby involving embedded software development
  • At least one degree module in digital communications (ideally wireless)
  • A desire to define the behaviour of embedded software products such as advanced radios
  • Appreciation of mobile phones and related technologies such as USB, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
