Be the one to make a difference every day

Here at Serco, our Graduate Management Trainee Programme offers you an amazing launchpad for a fast-track management career within a global FTSE 250 company – as well as a unique opportunity to be directly involved in delivering better public services.

    About the role

In the UK we operate in six key sectors including Health, Immigration, Defence, Justice, Transport and Citizen Services (such as leisure centres, refuse collection, and customer services). Working within Operations means being involved in the frontline of our business. Over two years you’ll complete two placements at sites in a regional cluster to develop an understanding of what it takes to deliver public services, work with our customers, manage and lead teams, and roll up your sleeves and pitch in with front line work!

From day one you will be focussing on developing your capability to lead talented teams, build customer relationships, solve complex problems and communicate effectively.  Most of your operational management development will be through on-the-job learning.  You will receive a wide range of training opportunities including project management and people management. We will also ask you to enrol on the Operational Management level 5 apprenticeship. Together this will further develop your skills and capabilities in order to set you up for success on your path to be a future leader within Serco

With the support of your colleagues, senior managers and a mentor, you’ll be given the autonomy and tools to innovate as you make a personal impact.  And you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you are making an important personal contribution to delivering services that impact people’s lives.

    What we are looking for

It’s our goal to be the best managed business within the sector, and as our one of Graduates you’ll be bringing your curiosity, commercial mind-set, passion and ideas to help us achieve that.

With a business and a workforce as diverse as ours we’re not looking for a specific degree discipline, what’s more important is that you can bring your own personal experience to help us redesign and improve public services for the benefit of everyone. To be a future leader at Serco you must also have the following qualities:

    • A genuine passion in delivering essential public services
    • A customer centric service ethos and a commercial mind-set
    • An ability to show resilience and empathy in the face of adversity
    • An entrepreneurial spirit and the will to make a difference
    • The desire to learn, the tenacity to make things happen and the ambition to dictate your own progress, through hard work and self-development

Note: You’ll also be engaged in a variety of environments and locations, so you’ll need to be willing to travel and to work on a flexible schedule, which will include shift work on some placements.

    Why Serco?

    Meaningful and vital work

The services we provide are often of critical importance to the communities and nations that we serve.  So not only will you be doing interesting work that matters you’ll also be engaged in the real and pressing challenges of delivering those services.

We keep our graduate cohort small so that you get the time, attention and development that your skills deserve.

    Great people

Every company claims to have great people – and we’re no different! – but what unites us as a business is our shared values and a genuine interest in delivering public services. You’ll have early exposure to our senior management and to experienced and caring colleagues.

    What we offer

You’ll receive an annual salary of £27,000 for the duration of the programme along with an annual holiday entitlement of 25 days plus bank holidays.
