This is an exciting time as we are expanding our Hydrogeology team and we are looking for a talented, bright and dynamic Graduate Hydrogeologist – someone who loves a technical challenge and wants to find solutions to complex problems, but also someone who can think big and contribute to our future strategies.

    Everything you need to know

One third of the Severn Trent Water system is supplied from groundwater sources, obtained from over 100 sources and approximately 300 boreholes. Our Hydrogeology Team are the technical specialists that help shape the groundwater strategies for the company and who support our operational colleagues with specialist advice and guidance in relation to tactical queries so that we can manage groundwater resources effectively.

As a Graduate Hydrogeologist at Severn Trent Water, you will play a pivotal role and some of your key accountabilities will include:

    • Working alongside a team of technical experts who provide support and recommendations to the business and stakeholders.

    • Undertaking Catchment Risk Assessments in accordance with drinking water safety plan requirements.
    • Developing strategies to inform our Water Resources Management Plan and Business Plan submissions.
    • Assessing data on asset health (CCTV/geophysical surveys and pumping tests) and using this to make recommendations to operational colleagues and for capital investment projects.
    • Liaising with key internal stakeholders who maintain our relationships with external organisations, including planning authorities and our Regulators, providing technical advice to ensure that groundwater resources are managed effectively for water supply and the environment.

What you’ll bring to the role

We’re seeking our new Graduate Hydrogeologist to be comfortable developing an energetic, pro-active, and passionate team culture. To be successful, it’s expected that you will have:

    • completed a masters degree qualification in hydrogeology, water resources, or similar, or be working towards that
    • good analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify problems with their root causes and articulate complex problems to a varied audience
    • confidence in how to collect good field data to support investigations
    • an ability to build robust conceptual hydrogeological models to support your decisions
    • good communication and presentation skills
    • an ability to be able to write clear, concise and coherent reports and be a competent user of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • some appreciation or experience of groundwater modelling techniques, GIS visualisation software and groundwater related policies and legislation
    • project planning, organisational and time management skills
    • an ability to work either independently or as part of a team to answer and to be able to balance priorities to meet internal and external project deadlines
    • a willingness to communicate and influence stakeholders and to build and sustain relationships
    • a full clean UK driving licence
    • membership of an appropriate professional organisation (or considering this accreditation)

The successful candidate will gain experience in a number of areas including: legislation concerning water resources and groundwater, regulations and standards around drinking water quality, asset management techniques for groundwater sources, groundwater resource evaluation processes/techniques, contaminant investigations/remedial options/treatment processes.
