As a global provider of marine seismic data, imaging products and data processing software, our teams offer an unparalleled acquisition and processing capability to our clients; providing them with the tools they need to de-risk their exploration and maximise their production efficiency. We partner with energy companies to explore for the natural resources the world needs today, providing subsurface imaging and monitoring for energy exploration and energy transition applications, as efficiently and safely as possible.

To mirror this, we offer an innovative work environment for our employees, one that encourages growth and inclusiveness and where everyone feels valued. And this environment extends to our summer internship programme, as we seek to support and develop the talent of the future. Therefore, we are offering the opportunity to curious and motivated students to join our UK-based Processing and Imaging team for a summer internship.

Perfect for individuals with a passion for their educational field and the desire to gain experience in seismic processing, this position is a brilliant opportunity to work with our geophysicists and acquire a valuable insight into how you can apply your academic experience in a commercial environment, to identify innovative solutions.

We encourage original thinking and an analytical approach to problem solving, which creates an environment where our interns feel confident in sharing their ideas in our diverse and inclusive teams! The role will be based at our office in Gatwick, UK, for a two-month period within a June-September 2023 window.

    The Role

Our experienced onshore and offshore processing teams provide clients with the highest quality subsurface images in all geological environments, for natural resource exploration and increasing activity towards energy transition seismic services, such as CCUS, ultra-high resolution and wind-farm seismic.

We build complex and high-resolution images of the subsurface, processing and imaging 2D, 3D, 4D, time and depth, towed-streamer and ocean-bottom seismic.

Using our proprietary Reveal software, our summer interns will work in a team with other Geophysicists, collaborating on seismic projects and looking at innovative techniques that will benefit our clients.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Develop your skills in signal processing, modelling and imaging
    • Process and image selected seismic data from 2D / 3D / 4D, time and depth, towed-streamer and ocean-bottom data
    • Use your applied mathematics and physics experience in a commercial environment to identify innovative solutions
    • Work in a project-based team, with the room to try new things

    Education and experience

    • Undertaking a BSc or above in Geophysics, complimentary physics or science degree
    • An analytical approach to problem solving
    • Demonstrable experience of managing deadlines and priorities
    • The ability to build new relationships with peers

    Personal Qualities

    • A drive and passion to innovate
    • The ability to communicate effectively
    • A natural team player, who can collaborate within a international and multidisciplinary team

We are interested in candidates who will fit into our team of respectful and inclusive colleagues who work together to provide high quality data solutions to our clients.

Successful candidates will soon find themselves contributing to our dynamic spirit and ambitious growth plans. At Shearwater everyone counts.

    What does Shearwater offer employees?

    • The chance to work in one of the world’s most exciting industries. From acquisition to image processing and research & development, our people innovate collaboratively from sensor to image - a continuous loop between people and technology
