    Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

    The Siemens Sheffield office now forms a hub for user-centred design practice within Siemens Product Engineering Software. The customer experience team is a multi-disciplinary team formed of Product Designers and User Researchers.

    What we’re looking for

    Are you a recent graduate, or someone who’s opted for a placement within their degree course? Are you looking to start your career as a user researcher with a focus on enterprise applications? Are you ready to help change perceptions that enterprise applications are not user friendly and are complicated to learn and master?

    Your degree should contain a high level of human behaviour content, and you should have an exceptional interest in looking beyond what people say and explore what they actually do.

    What you’ll be doing

    During this 12-month internship you will be reporting into to the User Research lead and Design lead. You will work in a small, Agile team tasked with providing actionable customer insights to inform design. As well as being involved in quantitative and qualitative research.

    You will help to create and run usability testing sessions, interviews, surveys, review analytics and more along with other user researchers. Whilst you are a part of the design team your work will focus solely on the user research activities of the product design and development process.

    What you’ll bring

    • A BSc/MSc/PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Anthropology, Journalism, Sociology, Computer Science, Marketing or similar
    • Understanding of user research and a desire to specialise in UX Research
    • A passion for understanding people, user needs and their behaviours
    • Keen interest and ideally good knowledge of the study of human behaviour
    • An applied understanding of a variety of research methods (incl. interviews, usability testing, surveys, data analysis, etc)
    • Experience in the analysis of large sets of quantitative and qualitative data
    • Strong communication and presentation skills that allow you to present data in an understandable, simplified and concise way both visually and verbally.
    • An interest in Software design

    A knowledge of any of the following would be desirable:

    • Agile software development
    • Design thinking approaches
    • 3D CAD systems
