This is an exciting job opportunity for you to light the way as a Component Planner to join our Purchasing team in Cwmbran, South Wales.
As a Component Planner, you’ll be responsible for the procurement and scheduling of materials to meet the production schedule.
You will report directly to the Purchasing Manager and will be working within the purchasing team and will have the main responsibility for the operational purchasing of electronic and mechanical lines, other purchasing will also be required.
As well as demonstrating technical excellence, we are looking for a resourceful, enthusiastic individual that tackles challenges head-on and can work effectively both independently and in tandem with other members of the team. You will demonstrate individual initiative and innovation, good attention to detail and a drive to do what is needed to deliver results.
What you’ll do
- Manage set of daily standard work, taking appropriate actions, and updating operating system and data bases/spreadsheets.
- Support Strategic Account Managers, by taking a proactive role in identifying opportunities to reduce component lead times/MOQs and prices.
- Daily management of a portfolio of suppliers to achieve quality, delivery and customer service levels across specific product groups.
- To maintain all relevant information, both physically and electronically on the computer system, relating to the assigned Supplier Accounts/Commodities, take a proactive role in producing/reviewing KPIs for specific commodity groups. Present data to Purchasing Manager, using the Supplier Scorecard and other tools.
- To contribute towards identifying projects for cost reduction, work to standards and targets agreed by Purchasing Manager.

- Ideally you will have experience of purchasing within a manufacturing environment combined with experience of computerized manufacturing systems (ERP, MPS).
- Knowledge of SAP, transactions and reporting and sourcing experience – placement of Purchase orders and expediting.
- Excellent Microsoft skills, good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a fast paced, accountable team environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of electronics, hands-on approach to all tasks and good time management skills and the ability to prioritise multiple projects.
- Analytical skills, to analyse and report data relating to departmental KPIs, knowledge of freight terms and some technical knowledge of commodities.
