Do you prefer understanding and explaining science topics to using a pipette? Do you want to help make sure the next generation of lab robots do exactly what scientists need them to do?

    Product Intern

Singer Instruments empower scientists in laboratories in over 60 countries to accelerate their research efforts on global challenges such as cures for cancer and solutions for renewable energies.

We’re looking for a driven scientist wanting to step away from the lab and looking to learn or expand their skills in product management and make an impact on life-changing science.

We make lab robots for scientific research — however, we need to ensure they do what scientists need. You’ll be researching scientific workflows, talking to scientists, looking at competitors to get to the detail of what our robots need to do before explaining the requirements to our R&D team.

Let’s make sure robots do what scientists want so that their discoveries change the world quicker!

Located in Exmoor on UK’s South West coast, Singer offers world-class culture and benefits. An engaged team makes great products!

    The Role

We’re looking for a driven scientist wanting to step away from the lab and looking to learn or expand their skills in product management and make an impact on life-changing science.

We make lab robots for scientific research — however, we need to ensure they do what scientists need. You’ll be carrying out a mixture of researching scientific workflows, talking to our in-house scientists and our customers about what they are trying to do, and looking at what competitors do to understand what we need to build. Once we’ve got to the detail of what our robots need to do we need to explain the requirements to the non-scientists in our R&D team so they know what to build.

    The Team

You will report directly to and be supported by the Product Manager and form a crucial part of the Product Team. You will be working closely with our Science, Hardware, Software, User Experience and Sales teams to help produce the next generation of robots.

    How do you fit in?

    • BSc, MSc, or recent graduate PhD in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a similar field.
    • The ability to communicate scientific requirements clearly to small groups of non-scientists.
    • Good attention to detail.
    • Willingness to research and collect data through literature, web searches, and user workshops.
    • A high level of written English.
    • An independent working style and self-motivated to succeed.

    Why should I apply?

    • You’re motivated by having a job with purpose, our customers work on finding cures for cancer, creating natural alternatives to synthetic materials, and accelerating the development of biofuels for example.
    • You prefer understanding and explaining science to operating a micropipette.
    • You prefer to live in a Somerset national park, on the beach, rather than a sprawling urban metropolis.
    • You want to have fun working in a vibrant, fast-paced environment.
    • You want to have an impact in ways you’ve never had before… we’re a small company (circa 60 people) with solid foundations for rapid growth.

    Bonuses

These aren’t required but you should definitely mention them in your application if you tick any of these boxes:

    • Experience with project management
    • Experience in an Agile environment
    • Hands-on, practical robotics (or similar) technical experience.
    • Solid IT skills including spreadsheets and databases.
    • Geeky hobbies
