The Role
We have an opportunity for a Graduate Health and Safety Associate to support us in our Heathrow IT Outsource account. The position will give a candidate experience of working across a range of complex and interesting IT Operational areas within a supportive environment where you can develop your career.
As a Health and Safety (H&S) Associate, you will have a vital role in helping the business to manage risks, safety performance, maintaining training and continuously improve.
Building effective relationships with stakeholders, our customer and including internal Govenance groups, you’ll be responsible for delivering Health & Safety and assurance. You’ll get involved in operations and the delivery of projects, all whilst developing your Health and Safety career in this dynamic environment.

What you will do
- Ensuring our business areas of Landside & Airside Operations or Commercial works is fully understood and is compliant with Heathrow’s standards for working conditions, contractual requirements, and H&S at work legislations
- Ensuring risk assessments are conducted and required controls implemented
- Support in undertaking site inspections and monitoring visits to determine health & safety compliance
- Support to ensure compliance of mandatory training, identifying training needs based on assessment of risk and accountabilities, along with maintaining an employee training matrix and scheduling of H&S training courses and refreshers
- Supporting with the delivery of Improvement Plans (SIP) where needed
- Attending H&S Govenance meetings, conducting H&S audits and supporting H&S communications across business areas, ensuring a consistent promotion of safety messaging, relevant to our account and how we work
- Supporting Incident reporting and investigation including making sure everyone knows how to report close calls and incidents with the use of an APP, and conduct incident investigations
- Submit reports where required and assist in reporting to relevant bodies, in line with existing regulations (e.g., RIDDOR) also contributing to service reports
- Share knowledge of risks and lessons learned from incident investigations and best practice
- Supporting management of the safety & maintenance planning of our small operational vehicle fleet, conducting safety checks, scheduling maintenance, and maintaining permits
- Maintaining Personal protective Equipment stock, issuing when required
Who you are
- Must obtain your degree by September 2022.
- Must have less than 12 months’ post graduate experience, excluding undergraduate placement/ internship experience.
- Must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom without the need for a work permit/sponsorship
- Degree in Associated area that are accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the Chartered body for health and safety professionals
- Desire to become a Safety professional within H&S
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, including effective stakeholder management ideally within a complex operational environment
- Sound analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data in a meaningful way
- Good understanding of continuous improvement processes and/or project management processes
- A positive team player and committed to delivering high quality output
- Driving license to reach various parts of the airport when required
- As you will require an airside ID, 5-year accountability, Security checks and clearance will be required to be passed
It is anticipated the role will require initial and on-going training, along with further support maybe possible in forming your career towards professional Chartership and member of IOSH.
