    South Ribble Council has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Health Team.

    This exciting opportunity which will be both an opportunity for the post holder to gain the work experience necessary to complete the portfolio which is required as part of the Environmental Health Practitioner registration process with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health whilst assisting the team in undertaking the detailed exercise of the Council Key Environmental Health Functions.

    The applicant will require a level 6 degree in a relevant Environmental Health Field and is able to demonstrate their enthusiasm and adaptability for working across a range of environmental health functions.

    • To undertake a period of work placement to support academic studies in Environmental Health
    • To pursue a course of study leading to an award of a degree satisfying the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or other nationally recognised environmental health related professional body.
    • To undertake a programme of supervised experience necessary to meet the requirements of registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner.
    • To assist with inspections, investigations or enquiries relevant to the work of the Environmental Health team and with developing experience carry out independent inspections, investigations and enquiries.
    • To arrange and co-ordinate, in conjunction with the Supervising Officer, a satisfactory programme of supervised experience.
    • To undertake unsupervised compliance visits at the request of team officers where competency can be demonstrated, and deal with proprietors’ answering queries where possible, including low risk food premises- identifying the appropriate premises from the inspection lists and sending out the appropriate paperwork.
    • To undertake monitoring in accordance with the Air Quality Monitoring Programme and collate results.
    • Coordinate the completion of infectious disease questionnaires and assisting an officer as appropriate to carry out visits to customers.
    • Responsible for any equipment used and taken on site.
