    You’ll get to work on a range of different projects and undertake field surveys across our operational area. You’ll be presented with complex technical challenges to be solved while working in multi-discipline engineering and environment teams and interfacing with every area of the business, highlight areas for improvement and helping us to determine, analyse and find solutions. Our project teams work together to provide water and wastewater services to more than 4.6 million people across the South East.

    Who you are

    We are looking for candidates with a 2:1 Masters degree (or predicted) with a full driving license. You will be passionate about your area and have a desire to develop new skills.

    What you'll do

    The graduate training programme is a 4 year programme designed to support developing ecologist from newly graduated to chartered level. The content has been selected to align with the competence requirements set by the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management and to develop ecologists that will excel within SW upon completion.

    Examples of types of work included in the programme include:

    • Wastewater design – working within multi-discipline teams on live engineering projects.
    • Water supply design - working within multi-discipline teams on live engineering projects.
    • Project management – working with the project management team to deliver engineering solutions, and to undertake studies and investigations with ecological elements.
    • Operations – working alongside our operational teams, managing the ecological risks of maintenance and emergency work.

    The majority of the graduate training programme will be based in the water supply and wastewater teams.
    Working with Southern Water, there are numerous opportunities to attend training with a range of nationally recognised training providers. Formal training is provided by our qualified training and development team or provided externally where more specialist knowledge is required.
