    The role

    We are seeking a motivated and talented Data Engineer / Data Technician to join our Data and Visualisation team which comprises Data Services, Visualisation, CAD and GIS specialists. The team supports the needs of the Mining, Geology and Geo-Environment technical groups and covers a broad range of skills from visualisation to geographic analysis and data engineering. As a team we innovate and push the boundaries of the technologies we use and deliver high quality work incorporating the latest visual and automation software.

    The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Microsoft data service products and possess the technical skills necessary to support data-related tasks within our technical consultancy projects. This role involves assisting with data engineering tasks, managing data pipelines, providing support for data-driven projects and general data management.     Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Participate in data validation and cleansing activities to ensure data accuracy and integrity, using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, Python, Azure Data Factory and SQL Server.
    • Assist with developing, and maintaining data pipelines, data models, and data integration processes using Microsoft data service products such as Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, and Azure. Data Lake
    • Assist in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration solutions.
    • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure the smooth operation of data pipelines, including monitoring and troubleshooting to identify and resolve data-related issues.
    • Assist in transforming and aggregating data to meet business requirements, leveraging tools like Excel, Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, Python, Azure Data Factory and SQL Server
    • Document data engineering processes, configurations, and data flows. Generate reports on data pipeline performance, data quality, and other relevant metrics.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including technical staff, and business stakeholders, to gather requirements, understand data needs, and ensure smooth data flow across systems.
    • Provide technical support for data-related issues, including investigating and resolving data quality and performance issues.
    • Keep up to date with the latest developments and best practices in data engineering and Microsoft data service products, and share knowledge with the team.

    Essential Requirements

    • Strong knowledge and experience in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
    • Strong Understanding of data engineering concepts and principles.
    • Technical Skills:
      • Strong understanding of Microsoft data service products such as SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Lake.
      • Proficiency in Power Platform tools, including Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate.
      • Familiarity with data modelling concepts and relational databases.
      • Knowledge of ETL processes and data integration techniques.
      • Experience with programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
    • Experience with data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes.
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data quality.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Prior experience or internships in data engineering or a related field is desirable, but not essential.
    • Innovative and clear thinking, able to work with complex problems and to present ideas and data to colleagues and clients to find solutions.
    • Willingness to proactively engage with consultants/clients to maintain and improve the quality of output maintaining excellent communication.

    This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include international travel.
