    Corporate IT Summer Placements

    Duration: 12 weeks commencing June 2022

    Location: Perth, Glasgow, Reading, hybrid home & office

    Salary:  £19,100 per annum pro rata

    What is the role?

    We have a number of Summer Placements within our Corporate IT business area.

    Our summer placement opportunities offer you the opportunity not only to play a part in achieving our goals, but to grow with us as well. As we look to finding better, more efficient and affordable ways of producing energy, there’s huge scope for you to make a real contribution at SSE. 

    1. Transmission IT  -  Operational Technology – Cyber Security.  You will be studying a Cyber Security or Computer Science degree.  The successful student will work with a skilled team to observe and participate:

    • Exposure to and supporting Real-time systems and Operational Technology that supports national infrastructure.
    • They will also work on Cyber Security, system testing, and providing user advice.
    • Gain exposure to Operations centres and field capture technologies

    2. Transmission IT – Data Management – Metadata Analyst. Open to any degree discipline but you should have an understanding of data/table structures in databases ((candidate must have a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to solving problems). The successful student will work with a skilled team to observe and participate and will:

    • Work with SSEN Transmission Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create and maintain metadata (data about data) using the Axon Data Governance tool
    • Support the development of presumed open data capabilities in line with Ofgem Data Best Practice Principles, Energy Digitalisation Taskforce recommendations and Data Management Centre requirements. Ensure that via search capability and tagging, data sources become discoverable and accessible to stakeholders.
    • Work with SSEN Transmission SMEs to develop and document data quality business rules to be applied to key data sets
    • Create and monitor data quality dashboards to measure performance against data quality business rules

    3. Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence – Data Management.  Open to any degree discipline but should have understanding of data and table structures in databases (candidate must have a systematic, disciplined and analytical approach to problem solving. The successful student will work with a skilled team to observe and participate and will:

    • Work with SSE Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create and maintain metadata (data about data) using the Axon Data Governance tool
    • Support the development of an internal data marketplace. Ensure that via search capability and tagging, data sources become discoverable and accessible to business users.
    • Develop and document data quality business rules to be applied to key data sets
    • Create and monitor data quality dashboards to measure performance against data quality business rules

    4. Energy Customer Solutions – PMO, Development.  You'll be studying a business or computing science degree.  The successful student will work with a skilled team to observe and participate and will:

    • Support project and portfolio delivery of transformation projects
    • Support of rollout of agile ways of working (if PMO)
    • Development of digital technologies (if developer)

    What do I need?

    The roles are open to students entering their penultimate or final year of study in September, 2022.  You'll be studying the degree disciplines listed as above for each role and the application form will show which degree disciplines are required for each placement.
