    What is the Role? 

    Engineering graduates joining SSE can work within one of our five different business areas where you'll be at the forefront of building a better world of energy for future generations. Graduates will follow either a generalist or specialist pathway depending on your degree discipline, preferred business area and career aspirations. Generalists will gain exposure across multiple departments throughout a 2-year programme, shaping the programme to suit your individual interests and career goals. Specialists will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of their graduate programme which can last between 12 months and 2 years. Both pathways have the aim of providing experience that will lead to a substantive post. 

    We offer a variety of programmes across different business units and you will be asked as part of the application process which one you prefer.     Distribution  

    Our Distribution engineering programme has opportunities for electrical engineering graduates in Aberdeen, Inverness, Perth, Melksham, Slough, Swindon, Reading and Portsmouth. Candidates for the distribution programme must be willing and able to relocate to the role location for the full duration of the programme. Candidates for this programme should have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation or Power Systems. You can find out more about this programme here.  

    Enterprise 

    Our Enterprise engineering programme has opportunities for engineering graduates in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Slough, Reading, Newcastle, Sunderland, Birmingham, Melksham, London, Manchester and South East. To be considered for these roles, candidates should have degrees in Electrical, Power Systems, Renewable, Mechanical Engineering, or Environmental Sciences. Opportunities are within EV, Slough Heat and Power and Assets, Heat and Assets and within the Engineering function. When applying and at interview you will be considered for all of these different areas. You can learn more about the enterprise engineering programme here.

    Renewables 

    In our Renewables engineering programme, graduates will have the opportunity to experience placements in our onshore and offshore teams based in Glasgow, Dublin or Perth; or within our solar and battery team based in Glasgow or Reading. To be considered for these roles, candidates should have degrees in Electrical, Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Materials, Renewables Engineering, Geoscience or Naval Architecture.     Thermal  

    In our Thermal business, we have operational and engineering positions based at our sites in Leeds, Aldborough, Atwick, Peterhead, Keadby, Medway, and Great Island. We are looking for candidates with degrees in Control and Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering or Asset Management.     Transmission 

    In our Transmission business, we have engineering positions based across Scotland, inclusive of Inverness, Glasgow, Cumbernauld, Perth and Aberdeen. Graduates will add value to a number of our teams including Project Engineering, HVDC, Power Systems, Onshore Development and Delivery. We are looking for candidates with degrees in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Subsea, Construction, Materials, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, and Computer Science.
