What is the role?

We're looking for students who can bring fresh ideas, new skills and creative thinking, to deliver innovative solutions to help us reach net zero. Our Enterprise summer placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12-week placement in our Solar and Battery Delivery team. The candidate will gain a robust knowledge of the Project Delivery function, supporting the delivery of projects at the construction phases, including handover to operations. You can expect to spend time both in the office and out at our construction sites, gaining experience and insight into modern project management techniques as well as developing an understand of construction supply chains and the role they play in SSE achieving its net zero targets. Throughout the placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy who will provide guidance to enable you to reach your full potential.
Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.
What do I need?
You’ll have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us, as often candidates who join us on summer placements consider joining our Graduate Programmes after graduation. We would love you to have some knowledge of:
- UK Net Zero Strategy
- SSE Net Zero Strategy
- MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Visio, Project)
- Excellent written / verbal communication skills and a can-do attitude to new tasks
Ideally, you’ll already have, or be on track to achieve, a minimum 2:2 degree in a Project Management, Engineering or similarly focussed subject. Our opportunities are open to students who are entering the final year of their degree in September or those who have already graduated.
We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy or sustainability sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.
