    Our Operational Technology Policy summer placements provides real hands-on experience through a 12-week placement in our Operational Technology Standards team. Throughout placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and manager, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.

    The Operational Technology Standards team is the technical authority within SSEN Distribution for substation automation systems, the equipment that we install within our substations for smart monitoring and control. We produce specifications, standards and policies, as well as carrying out product testing and evaluation to ensure we are installing the right equipment on our network.

    You will work with the team to help carry out and document the technical approval process for new intelligent electronic devices that we will deploy on our distribution network, such as protection relays, remote terminal units and power quality recorders.

    Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.

    What do I need?

    We have opportunities for those studying Electrical Engineering. Our opportunities are open to students who are in their 4th year of their degree onwards or those who have already graduated.

    We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
