    Our graduate programme provides real hands-on experience through a rotation of placements in different projects and teams. Throughout the 2-year programme, you will have the support of our Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.

    Our graduates work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. A key principle of the graduate programme is continuous professional development and SSE has built a learning culture where value is placed on learnings that go beyond the immediate task.

    What will I do on the programme?

    The role of Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability graduate involves working across all areas of the SHE function, gaining valuable experience in strategy, operational risk management and compliance.

    You will work in the Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability team, reporting to a senior member of the team. The programme will include:

    • Gaining knowledge and experience across all discipline areas, with the potential of further academic qualification.
    • Understanding of SSE and Distributed Energy governance processes and how they are applied
    • Practical experience will be gained in the form of hybrid working at operational site(s), SSE offices and home, with the potential of experiencing the operational activities of other SSE businesses

    What do I need to join?

    You will have gained or be predicted to achieve a 2:2 Honours Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental/Sustainability Management.

    You need the willingness to undertake a varied and challenging role with the ability to work to tight timescales to deliver to a high standard to work. We're looking for you to be pro-active and use your initiative in order to work individually or as part of a team and undertake challenging tasks often beyond your ‘comfort zone’.

    We'd love you to have practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the role, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.

    You should have an interest in the energy sector and show alignment with SSE's core values. We also ask that you have a flexible approach to work locations and be genuinely committed to developing a career with us – as we are with you.
