What is the Role?
As a graduate joining SSE, you will follow either a generalist or specialist pathway depending on your degree discipline, preferred business area and career aspirations. Generalists will gain exposure across multiple departments throughout the 2-year programme, shaping the programme to suit your individual interests and career goals. Specialists will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of their graduate programme which can last between 12 months and 2 years. Both pathways have the aim of providing experience that with lead to a substantive post.
Throughout the programme, you will have the support of our Graduate Programme Manager and a business mentor, who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.
We offer a variety of programmes across different business units and you will be asked as part of the application process which one you prefer. Energy Businesses
This Programme offers you a unique opportunity, on our generalist pathway, to experience life across multiple SSE Energy Businesses; SSE Renewables, Energy Portfolio Management, SSE Thermal, Energy Customer Solutions and SSE Enterprise.
Across the two years, you will spend six months at a time, in four different energy businesses. There are huge range of placements available that will challenge and inspire you along with excellent support every step of the way. Expect exposure to senior leaders and plenty of networking and training opportunities too. You should be studying for or have achieved a degree in the following disciplines; Business Management, Economics, Sustainability, Digital, Marketing, Strategy, Innovation, Trading, Commercial, Finance & Accounting or Data Analytics. Transmission
Our Business Planning and Commercial team focuses on research, analytics, data management, economic analysis & commercial performance as well as influencing policy areas. This team is critical in ensuring we are working towards Net Zero, understanding the energy landscape and implementing strategies to ensure we provide a safe and reliable supply of electricity to our communities.
We have we have commercial positions based across Scotland, inclusive of Inverness, Glasgow, Cumbernauld, Perth, Aberdeen. Graduates will add value to a number of our teams including Stakeholder Engagement, Business Planning and Commercial, Whole System and Regulation. We are looking for candidates with degrees Business, Economics, Maths, Innovation, Finance or any non-engineering. Enterprise
In our Enterprise Commercial programme, graduates on our specialist pathway will have the opportunity to experience placements in our Operations/Customer Service, Heat and EV teams, where you will gain experience to become a Project Development Manager. You will be based in Slough, Reading, London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Melksham or Cardiff. To be considered for these roles, candidates should have a degree in digital, business, IT, environmental science, sustainability, engineering or electrical engineering. Renewables
In our Renewables Solar & Battery Operations team, graduates will have the opportunity to experience placements around the business on our generalist pathway. These roles can be based in Glasgow or Reading. To be considered for these roles, candidates should have degrees in Electrical Engineering.
