Have you ever thought about joining a multidisciplinary team where you get to work in a diverse, welcoming, and fun environment, on amazing projects? Then look no further than Stantec. As part of continued and ambitious UK growth, Stantec has identified an opportunity to grow its Environmental Permitting and Regulatory Compliance team who works from the Exeter, Shrewsbury, and Warrington offices.

    The role

The role will be within or closely aligned to Stantec’s Environmental Permitting and Regulatory Compliance team but also delivering work on projects for clients across our Environmental Consulting Community of Practice which brings together our 300-strong team of Environmental Consulting staff in the UK.

Environmental Permitting (EP) (and its equivalents in devolved UK nations) has an essential role to play in ensuring a wide range of activities are undertaken in compliance with prevailing environmental legislation and in a manner which is protective of the environment.

Operations falling under the EPR regime include activities across multiple sectors including waste, industry, water, energy, minerals and construction and requires a broad environmental understanding with inputs from technical specialists where required.

Environmental Permitting and regulatory compliance projects are likely to be diverse and will include associated regulatory environments and regimes (e.g. Industrial Emissions Directive (IED); Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD); Water Framework Directive (WFD); and Environmental Protection Act (EPA) Part 2A, to name just a few.). The role will also likely extend to wider waste, environmental and compliance advisory support to projects through planning, EIA and ongoing client operations.

    What you'll do

Project work is varied but primarily includes preparing Environmental Permit applications, Environmental Management Systems, technical and interpretive reports, environmental audits, and providing ongoing/specialist compliance support to clients. The role will also involve developing strong communication and client relation skills, proposal writing, and project management skills. Our focus will be on providing support to ensure the successful candidate is given the knowledge and opportunities to develop these skills and their career at Stantec.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidates to join a leading Global consultancy, and gain wide-ranging exposure to the consulting environment to develop skills and become a specialist in their field.

    About You

We would anticipate that you will have achieved an Honours Degree (2:1) in Environmental/Earth Science or broader Environmental Management. You may currently work in environmental or engineering consultancy, directly for waste or industry operators, for the UK environmental regulator(s) (e.g. Environment Agency, NRW, SEPA or NIEA) or be a recent or future graduate keen to kick start your career.

We would be particularly interested in hearing from you if you have experience in contributing to or managing projects requiring Environmental Permitting deliverables for the regulated water, waste, energy, and industrial sectors. Experience in the Environmental Permitting regime and management of Permit applications, client and regulator liaison would therefore be extremely beneficial.

You should be willing to learn and be a good communicator and support clients and projects across our UK teams. Experience in managing client and regulator relationships would be beneficial.

Travel will be required between Stantec’s UK offices but also to attend client meetings, site visits and industry events (workshops, conferences, etc.) where these cannot be otherwise attended via remote means. Some overnight stays may be required as part of the role.
