For this graduate programme, our minimum academic requirements are at least 3 B Grades at A level and to have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2:1 degree. Coupled with these we look for candidates with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team who have an interest in the commercial world.
These vacancy will be based in our Liverpool office. We are committed to developing our own trainees’ careers and have members of our management team who started with Cowgills as ICAEW trainees.
Key responsibilities
Audit
- Liaises with audit senior in carrying out on site work
- Attendance of planning meetings prior to starting assignment
- Completion of transaction testing e.g. sales, purchases etc
- Preparation of payroll summaries and wages testing
- Completion of work on bank testing
- Existence testing on payroll on fixed assets
- Other assistance on other areas of the file as required
Accounts
- Assistance in preparation of annual financial statements ensuring compliance with all current reporting standards
- Preparation of supporting accounting schedules and reconciliations, obtaining relevant documentation to evidence amounts in the financial statements
- Maintains confidentiality as a Data Processor in accordance with GDPR
- Identifies potential problems/areas of risk and uses initiative to proactively propose solutions, addresses them or report them as appropriate
- Preparation of basic tax computations with support and schedules (with assistance from seniors) for inclusion in the annual financial statements
- Assistance in ensuring all relevant submissions to Companies House and HMRC are completed before deadlines
Clients
- Develops a good relationship and understanding of client in order to adapt approach and communication to ensure client satisfaction
- Escalates more complex matters and queries and areas of risk to audit senior/manager as appropriate
