    We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Fire Engineering Intern to join our Fire Engineering team in Edinburgh during summer 2023.

    What does the role involve?

    Working on projects across multiple disciplines you will provide strategic fire safety advice across the UK for the whole construction sector including commercial, residential, infrastructure and transportation. This role presents a real depth and breadth of some of our most exciting project schemes and the opportunity to work in a team of highly skilled and talented engineers.

    Our fire engineering project roles continue throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept design through to construction. Collaborating with clients and external stakeholders is a key part of the role through delivering presentations and you will also be involved in contributing to design team meetings to ensure designs follow the fire strategies that have been agreed.

    Responsibilities

    As a Fire Engineering intern, day to day activities include the following with support from a senior member of the Fire Engineering Team:

    • Attending design team meetings internally and externally
    • Reviewing and marking up design proposals
    • Liaising with design team members i.e. Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health Engineers as well as Architects and clients
    • Critical thinking in supporting the design team to overcome the Fire Safety challenges
    • Producing technical reports to support the design through approval process
    • Undertaking detailed Fire Engineering analysis including using computer modelling tools i.e. CFD, Evacuation and Structural Analysis modelling
    • Meeting and discussions with the Approving Authorities

    Requirements

    You'll be studying for a degree in Fire Engineering, you may even be a student member of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE). You'll be diligent, creative, able to manage your time effectively and have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
