    We are currently looking for a talented and motivated Graduate Sustainability Consultant to join our team in Maidenhead.

    What does the role involve? 

    You will support the delivery of sustainable by design on a wide variety of projects within a multidisciplinary design team for several key clients covering building sustainability from project feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

    Project Delivery

    • Undertaking studies of building environmental design alongside the energy team within the Building Sustainability group.
    • Engaging with wider team members at concept design stage to drive sustainability outcomes.
    • Attending key internal and external meetings.
    • Gathering information required for dynamic modelling and indoor environmental comfort for individual projects.
    • Carrying out dynamic modelling studies particularly related to façade optimization for energy efficiency, overheating risk assessments, daylight and sunlight calculations.
    • Supporting calculations on Building Regulations Part L compliance.
    • Assisting with reports of energy, sustainability, and circular economy statements.
    • Generating and communicating technical reports.
    • Remaining aware and communicating relevant changes to regulatory standards internally and externally.
    • Working in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines as required.
    • Recommending / implementing improvements to design solutions and processes where applicable and share via the knowledge management channels as appropriate.
    • Supporting and driving our culture of added value and innovation.
    • Ensuring health and safety continues to be at the heart of all our operations.

    Financial/Commercial Management & Tender Activity

    • Managing time allocation of self in execution of projects.
    • Assisting in bid proposals and environmental studies to support competition works with architects.
    • Supporting entries to award competitions (i.e. Build to Perform, Building Simulation Awards).

    Business Development 

    • Supporting bids with graphical content and supporting studies.
    • Participate in, support and drive our culture of client feedback and communication and improvement.

    What you'll need

    • A multi-disciplined buildings background. Ideally supported by a first degree in Architecture, Building Physics or Building Services Engineering or closely related discipline.
    • Dynamic modelling experience: IES VE preferable.
    • A strong desire to deepen knowledge on bioclimatic design, health and wellbeing, environmental comfort and passive design strategies.
    • Basic to intermediate skills on CAD packages: preferred AutoCAD and Revit.
    • The ability to communicate ideas in a simple, visual and comprehensive manner.
    • The ability to handle data and reporting in clear structure of output.
    • The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with Clients and other team members and to produce written reports in clear English.
    • A client focussed attitude, with the ability to represent Sweco in discussions with, and in giving presentations to Clients, design and contracting teams.
    • Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions.
    • The ability to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors.
    • The ability to recognise own impact on others and adapt approach where appropriate.

    The following knowledge/experience would be advantageous

    • Knowledge of Building Regulations, particularly Part L.
    • Familiarity with BREEAM / HQM / LEED / WELL.
    • Knowledge in SAP (Elmhurst) assessments.
    • Certified Passivhaus Designer.
    • Ability to carry out Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
    • Basic knowledge of visual programming and scripting, i.e. Grasshopper, Dynamo and Python.
    • Interest in embodied carbon.
    • Graphic design: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
    • Knowledge of building optimisation platforms.
