We are currently looking for a university graduate with drive and ambition to train as a Contracts Manager within our Procurement & Commercial Team.

    What does the role involve

Sweco is currently engaged in a variety of commissions providing construction consultancy services to a wide array of clients via their multi-disciplinary teams. The value and risk profile of such operations require a dedicated procurement & commercial team to oversee the contractual operations of our project managers, engineers and administrators to ensure we are providing optimal services to our clients (including design & build tier 1 contractors) whilst maximising the value of our professional services agreements.

The Trainee Contracts Manager will report to one of our Commercial Managers and be expected to initially support procurement and post contract commercial requirements within Sweco’s highways business unit (operational commercial management and contract governance). This is an opportunity to join a procurement and commercial team at an embryonic stage but within an established consultancy that has a €2 billion turnover across Europe.

    Training Competencies

    • Procurement Strategy: responding to procurement requests, develop procurement strategies and letting contracts in-line with programme requirements.
    • Contract Negotiation: liaising with internal legal, engineering and commercial specialists to negotiate optimal contract terms, pricing and technical content with clients and Sweco’s supply chain.
    • Contract Administration: ensure that Sweco employees are engaging with our clients and supply chain in accordance with contract terms and conditions.
    • Contractor/Subcontract Governance: manage the supply chain and our clients with appropriate escalation routes to efficiently resolve issues and disputes. Ensure contractual compliance at all times in this regard.
    • Financial Control & Reporting: provide analysis and reporting on project cashflow, costs and profitability to Sweco senior management.

To be successful in this role you’ll possess

    • A business, legal or engineering related degree; however, the development route for this role would better suite candidates that want to specialise in procurement and commercial management i.e., quantity surveying & supply chain management type degrees would be the most directly transferrable (for context); however, these specific degrees are not a prerequisite for this role.
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the ability to adjust your style to suit your audience.
    • Drive, determination, and ambition to become rounded business professional within the construction sector.
    • Ability to do occasional travel away from home (1 to 2 nights every few weeks) throughout the UK.

    What’s in it for you

You’ll be working for a top ten civil engineering firm recognised by New Civil Engineer, (NCE). Working at Sweco you’ll experience an inclusive, friendly and flexible working environment where colleagues are encouraged to grow and develop. A meaningful job where you’ll help to transform society by being a trusted consultant to our clients.

If you believe you have the skill set required, are keen to join a business with genuine opportunities for career progression, then we’d love to hear from you.
