    The R&D department is responsible for new technology development, product maintenance, testing and qualification of umbilical and cable materials, components, structures and hardware. The R&D team consists of several subject matter experts in a range of technical areas which support R&D projects, pre-award and post award activities.

    We are looking for a Graduate Engineer to join the team. Training in subsea cables, subsea umbilicals and their design will be provided along with the opportunity to work in a range of different engineering positions in the first two years in the position. On completion of two years as a graduate engineer the successful applicant would join the Cables Team within the R and D department.

    Main functions of the role

    • Design and Development: Assist in the design and development of subsea power cables and umbilicals, including component selection, prototyping, and testing.
    • Research: Conduct research on new materials, technologies, and methods to enhance the performance and reliability of subsea cables.
    • Simulation and Analysis: Perform electrical simulations and analyses to evaluate the performance of subsea cable systems under various operating conditions.
    • Testing: Support the planning and execution of laboratory and field tests to validate the performance of subsea cable prototypes.
    • Documentation: Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and test plans to support R&D activities.
    • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, materials scientists, and project managers, to ensure successful project outcomes.
    • Innovation: Contribute to brainstorming sessions and idea generation for new product features and enhancements.

    Main duties

    • Design electrical in accordance with the required standards
    • Analyse cables for the service requirements
    • Develop systems for the design and analysis of cables
    • Review and clarify the cable product that we supply against our customers’ specifications.
    • Maintain procedures and design rules relating to the design, analysis and procurement of cables
    • Be responsible for the Technip FMC’s approach to reliability and interact with other experts in the group to keep our approach aligned and up to date.
    • Provide support and service to other departments
    • Participate in consolidation and development activities associated with the subsea cable product.
    • Ensure compliance with company, departmental and quality and management procedures and systems.
    • Analyse and comment on customer requirements, specifications, and contract documentation.
    • Develop intellectual property and propose new R & D projects to support the product

    Qualifications experience

    • Education: bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
    • Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, including electromagnetism, power systems, and signal transmission.
    • Skills: Familiarity with electrical simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, COMSOL) and CAD tools. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or C++ is a plus.
    • Experience: Prior internship or project experience in subsea engineering, power transmission, or related fields is advantageous but not required.
    • Attributes: Excellent problem-solving skills, strong analytical abilities, and a keen interest in subsea technologies.
    • Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly.
