A great opportunity for a person with an interest in Earth Observation (EO), satellite data systems and data processing, to join our UK team.
Objective
To contribute to operational and science-based services and system developments for national, and international EO programmes.
Responsibilities/ Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to;
- Support services to ESA for Instrument Data quality Evaluation and Analysis Service (IDEAS-QA4EO) and including the Earthnet Data Assessment Pilot (EDAP)
- Interact with expert customers and partners on mission data issues
- Perform routine quality control of operational and reprocessed EO data products
- Produce quality reports on mission data
- Identify and investigate quality issues and anomalies
- Research and respond to technical user queries
- Use programming to automate/ enhance routine procedures
- Contribute to posters, publications and presentations at meetings/ conferences
- Contribute to technical proposal authoring to win new work
- Carry out occasional travel to conferences/ customer sites
Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum - BSc in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and/or Geography
- No experience needed, training will be provided.
Essential:
- Interest in working to support an operational ESA mission
- Interested to learn about Earth Observation data products, data QC etc.
- Familiarity with Linux operating system environment
- Familiarity with computing languages such as Python.
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Ability to plan and prioritise activities
- Motivated and proactive, taking responsibility for tasks
- Attention to detail
Desirable:
- Some experience in Earth Observation
- Some knowledge or understanding of SMOS mission
- Some knowledge or understanding of EO data processing
- Some experience in a customer facing role
- Proficiency with MATLAB and scripting languages
- Proficiency in writing technical documents
