    Junior Digital Hardware Engineer FPGA

    Thales is at the forefront of the UK Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems, we are a world leader in sensors, communications, mission systems and in the fast-growing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) market; we are delivering Europe’s largest UAS programme. Our ISR division has over 40 years’ experience developing and delivering manned and unmanned airborne surveillance systems.

    We now have an incredible opportunity within the ISR team for a Junior Digital Hardware Engineer to support complex firmware engineering within with defence, aerospace and autonomous systems. We are looking for recent graduates keen to do hands-on engineering or for more experienced graduates looking for the opportunity to take the next step in their career.

    Role

    The role will offer experience over a number of different product areas, encompassing everything from product design and development through to larger scale platform integration and will be focussed around the core skills associated with a Digital Hardware / Firmware Engineer, including the following: FPGA / VHDL hardware architecture, requirements specification, schematic capture, design, Firmware (FPGA / VHDL) development, verification, hardware integration, validation and design assurance activities.

    Key responsibilities following training and development will include

    • Design and develop firmware using Hardware Description Languages or High Level Synthesis Languages (Principally VHDL)
    • Simulation and analysis
    • Verify firmware using Hardware Description languages or Hardware Verification Languages
    • Implementing designs and achieving timing closure
    • Integration of firmware on the target hardware
    • Test, measurement, debug and verification
    • Technical assistance to production

    Experience, skills and qualification required

    • A relevant degree or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, or Communications)
    • Exposure/experience within highly regulated or industrial environments
    • Enthusiasm for engineering and FPGA design in particular.
    • Experience with Digital electronic design in hardware development language would be highly advantageous
    • An understanding of the fundamentals of High speed digital design
