About the Team
This is an exciting opportunity working within the Optronics Missile Electronics (OME) function, who deliver future optronics products and services for land, air and sea. You will be working with a small, close-knit, collaborative team.
Our Opportunity
As an optical design engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of products that encompass thermal imaging, multiband, direct and indirect visual imaging, non-imaging and laser systems.
You will be involved in all aspects of optical design and engineering, including:
- Definition of the optical architecture to meet requirements
- Detailed design and tolerancing of optical systems and sub-assemblies
- Definition of detailed optical drawings
- Technical discussions with optical component subcontractors
- Definition of optical test methods
- Specification of production tooling and test equipment
You will be expected to support multiple projects and as such will require planning and organising skills. You will be a committed team member who enjoys collaboration, working within and improving shared development practices and documenting and sharing knowledge and experience with colleagues.
About you

Some nice to haves
- A degree in a Numerate, Scientific or Engineering subject or Higher Education/equivalent training and experience.
- You will be familiar with radiometry and photometry principles and a basic knowledge of classical optical systems.
- A passion for optics, implement it on a solution, and capture associated trends and concerns
- A team-player attitude and love to work within a multidisciplinary environment
- A customer-oriented mind-set
