    The Donkey Sanctuary is an international animal welfare organisation, offering care and protection to donkeys worldwide. Our vision is a world where every donkey has a good quality of life, and our mission is to improve the lives of donkeys every day.

    We will achieve this by transforming the lives of donkeys in need worldwide by fostering greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.

    These are 12-month long internships based at the sanctuary’s brand new, purpose-built hospital at Brookfield Farm, Honiton, Devon, one starting in September 2024 and one in March 2025.

    Initially 6 months hospital-based with daily duties including anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging, surgery and in-patient care. To then transition into an ambulatory 6 months looking after the sanctuary’s 2,700 donkeys across Devon and Dorset.

    To work with farriers, dental technicians and pathologists, gaining a well-rounded knowledge of donkey care and treatment. Opportunity for involvement with a research project.

    BEVA approved internship

    Working with a team at the forefront of donkey welfare and medicine.

    To work 5 days a week Mon-Fri from 8am to 4:30pm with team on- call rota gradually transitioned into once the intern is confident and competent. Competitive salary.

    This internship will produce a vet that is competent in all areas needed for an ambulatory equine vet whilst allowing them to have a superior knowledge and understanding of the different needs of donkeys.

    Vet GDP supported by 10 vets, 6 nurse team and dedicated time.
