Laboratory Technician Harrogate 2024

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in custom built laboratories within the Environmental Risk Sciences (ERS) Group of Smithers. Based in Harrogate we are currently recruiting for a Lab Technician within Environmental Fate & Metabolism.

The role

Our work supports evaluation of the potential risks of new and existing substances to the environment resulting from the manufacture and use of pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and agrochemicals. You will be involved in performing the day-to-day laboratory phase of studies designed to investigate the fate and behaviour of 14 C‑labelled test compounds in soil, sediment, water and also in plants. Training will be given in all aspects of the role which include: set-up and maintenance of studies, sample analysis and general laboratory duties, data processing and checking. Responsibilities of your role may vary dependent on qualifications and relevant experience.

Qualifications and Experience

Ideally having laboratory experience or educated to BSc or equivalent in Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or a related subject. Interested applicants should have excellent IT skills, be well-organised, enthusiastic and demonstrate a hands-on approach to work with an ability to use their initiative and apply knowledge. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are essential. Relevant practical experience is preferred.
