This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Research Technician to join the Menon lab within the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation, as part of a programme funded by the UKRI. This is a full-time post for 2 years, with a possibility to extend further.

The role

The research programme aims to unravel how lung-infiltrating B cells contribute to chronic lung disease, by utilizing a combination of tissue and blood samples from patients/controls, in vivo disease models, and cutting-edge technologies.

The role will be to provide technical support for a range of research activity including; processing blood and tissue samples, managing the sample biobank, running/troubleshooting experiments, the use and maintenance of research associated equipment and other associated duties that commensurate with the grade. Some experience in immunology research is strongly preferred.

About you

  • A qualification at QCF level 6 (such as a bachelors degree) in a relevant biological science subject.

OR

  • QCF level 2 passes (such as GCSE’s) in English and Mathematics and at least one Science subject and substantial relevant experience of working in a research laboratory.
  • Experience in one or several of the laboratory techniques: blood/ tissue processing, flow cytometry, histology and animal husbandry
  • Knowledge of and compliance with relevant Health and Safety regulation, the Data Protection Act, Standard Operating Procedures and risk assessments including COSHH risk assessments.
  • Competent computer skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently.
