    Location/Division Specific Information

    This role as a Scientist involves working within Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Specialty Diagnostic Group, within the Microbiology Division (MBD), our customers worldwide trust our microbiology solutions for the diagnosis of infectious disease and detection of bacterial contamination. Career band level 4, professional, reports to Manager of Global Clinical Device Trials. FLSA Status is exempt.

    As part of the AST Global Trials Team you will assure the quality of current and future products and satisfy the very high expectations of our customers in Pharmaceutical Development. You will achieve this by collaborating closely with other functions and departments to identify solutions for diverse challenges as well as independently striving for continual improvement of Clinical Trial Processes.

    A day in the Life

    • Provide technical knowledge to the development and clinical trials teams, including creating clinical trial protocols while implementing the latest scientific information, contribute to site selection, involved in review and approval of study protocols and amendments, Clinical Study Reports (CSRs), protocol deviation decisions and other clinical documents as required for the conduct of clinical trials.
    • Attending team meetings, actively contributing and reporting progress.
    • Representing the team in meetings with internal customers.
    • Assisting R&D managers in the establishment and implementation of R&D team or department strategies.
    • Fulfilling the responsibilities of the position defined in the company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, and associated codes of practice.
    • Ensuring that their own work aligns with the companies ISO registration.

    Keys to Success

    Education:

    • A degree in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or a related topic.
    • Experience of analytical techniques, especially HPLC. or BS or BA degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or related field with one year or less of laboratory experience. Required area of experience in Analytical Chemistry, Immunoassay, Hematology, Coagulation, Microbiology or Clinical Chemistry.

    Experience:

    • Clinical monitoring experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job in a clinical environment where experience is gained in clinical trials, medical terminology, medical research, clinical research or health care or background in a health sciences field.
    • Experience in a microbiology laboratory with the ability to demonstrate competency in microbiological techniques, especially AST. In addition, the jobholder should demonstrate good analytical, organisational and communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software packages, especially Word and Excel, is required.
    • Experience of analytical techniques, especially HPLC.

    Having research skills is fundamental for career success as a scientist. Being able to design your study, and find the most appropriate metrics for assessing data and correctly interpreting results. Conduct experiments with relevant conclusions.

    Working with large amounts of data and attempt to draw conclusions from them. Being able to optimally collect, coordinate and analyze data. Requires knowing how to use specialized data management software.

     Using practical applications of scientific principles to resolve various issues and challenges. Identifying a problem, analyze it and come up with effective solutions.

    Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

    Majority of work will be completed in a laboratory environment. Candidate may be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties and must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.
