As we continue to grow, we invite talented, motivated and ambitious go-getters to apply for our Information Scientist role based in our Glasgow HQ (Initial 6 months contract with possibility to became full time employee at the end of the 6 month period).
Key responsibilities
- Analyse customer data sets to identify data elements that can be used for recommendations.
- Create mappings between customer and ThinkAnalytics thesauri.
- Analyse genre and feature information of television and movie catalogues from various countries to aid in the construction of controlled vocabularies.
- Create new and improve existing ThinkAnalytics thesauri and content catalogues.
- Oversee the translation of existing ThinkAnalytics thesauri to languages required by customers.
- Work directly with development teams to improve data extraction tools and processes.
- Participate in company social events such as monthly hackathons and ‘Pizza Fridays’!
About you
Essential skills
- BLISC, DLISC or PHD/Masters in information science, information management, information and library studies or related discipline. Candidates with equivalent experience can also be considered.
- Knowledge about organisation of knowledge/classification/cataloguing/thesauri and information retrieval.
- Excellent research and data analysis skills.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office (especially Excel).
- Good communication skills and ability to write comprehensive reports.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to use different tools and technologies creatively and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and be able to work effectively on a team.
- Being able to follow processes and maintain a positive attitude.
- Being able to work independently and be an effective contributor.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written English skills.
Desirable skills
- Background in linguistics and/or film and media studies.
- Knowledge of a second language.
- Experience in using relational databases and SQL.
- Experience in developing taxonomies and thesauri.
- An understanding of XML files and CVS/GIT repositories.
- Knowledge of any mark-up or programming language.
- Data analysis experience.
- Experience in Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket.
