We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Finance Officer to join our team at the Thomson Reuters Foundation. The Finance Officer will be responsible for managing Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and efficiency in financial transactions.

About the role

As a Finance Officer at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will:

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Review and ensure that Vendor Setup requests are aligned to TRF AP process for the CFO approval.
  • Ensure that vendor invoices are processed accurately and on a timely basis by the AP processing team.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures for approving and processing payments.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Process payments via Western Union in the absence of the Senior Finance Analyst.

Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Generate and send customer invoices promptly and accurately in coloration with Program Managers and Business Development as required.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and follow up on overdue payments with PM.
  • Record customer payments in the accounting system and reconcile accounts receivable ledger.
  • Investigate and resolve any billing discrepancies or disputes.

Bank Reconciliations

  • Review monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts including identifying, investigating, and resolving discrepancies between bank statements and accounting records.
  • Record and reconcile bank fees, interest, and other transactions.
  • Provide support during audits by responding to inquiries and as requested.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

About you

As a Finance Officer at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will likely have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or experience in bookkeeping, working in a finance or in an accounting role, with specific experience in AP, AR, bank reconciliations, accounting principles and regulations
  • Proficiency in accounting software e.g., SAP and MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
