We are recruiting for a Data Engineer to join our dynamic, NIHR-funded Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC).

    The role

The role will play a vital part in building our trail-blazing HDRC programme, which aims to use research to reduce health inequalities in London’s most densely populated borough.

We are looking for a new member of our team who will share our vision to create a research-active council, and share our passion to collaborate across internal council teams and external partner agencies. You will be able to apply your data skills and experience to help to ensure data is linked and usable for research.

    About HDRC

Our mission is to make it easier to do and use research about health determinants and health inequalities.

Our HDRC is a powerful collaboration between the Council, local universities, and community organisations. It consists of Queen Mary University of London, University of East London, London Metropolitan University and Tower Hamlets Council for Voluntary Service.

Over the 5-year funding period we will: make it easier to do research collaboratively; develop the right data, processes and resources to support research; train employees and residents to do research; apply this research to inform policies and improve services; and ultimately make positive changes for residents.

If you think you’d like work with us to achieve this, we’d love to hear from you.

    About Tower Hamlets

Tower Hamlets is one of London’s most diverse, vibrant boroughs. It’s a melting pot of creativity, enterprise and cultural life that brings the best of London together in just eight square miles. It’s also a borough of contrasts, and as a Council, we know that Tower Hamlets is on a vital journey of improvement. There are tough challenges we need to tackle, but with that comes a unique opportunity to make a real impact. We’re changing – rapidly. This is a place where people make things happen. Where everyone works together with zeal, passion and pride.

Tower Hamlets vision for our borough is that: people are aspirational, independent and have equal access to opportunities; we are a borough that our residents are proud of and love to live in; and we are a dynamic, outcomes-based council using digital innovation and partnership working to respond to the changing needs of our borough. We want people who aspire to our TOWER values: Together; Open; Willing; Excellent; Respect.

Tower Hamlets has a zero-tolerance approach to, and works to eradicate, all forms of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status, status as a civil partner, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and maternity and looks to employ a diverse workforce representative of those groups. We recognise that people can also be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class.

We welcome applicants interested in flexible working arrangements and also applicants who live in the borough. The role will be based at the new Town Hall in Whitechapel. The council offers flexible working arrangements including a mixture of in person and hybrid working.
