About your Role
TfGM currently has an opportunity for a talented graduate to join us as a Graduate Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Engineer, providing the chance to gain experience across various elements of ITS, Urban Traffic Control (UTC) and other Highways teams. At the end of the programme, you will be given a permanent role in in the ITS team.
The ITS team design, implement and maintain technology and infrastructure across Greater Manchester, supporting the day-to-day operation and management of the transport network. This involves assisting in the deployment of on-street assets such as machine-learning video analytic sensors, to trialling new and innovative technologies through technology providers such as Google.
The team work closely with the ten districts of Greater Manchester, National Highways and a variety of suppliers in order to deliver a range of innovative solutions.
As a Graduate Traffic Engineer, you will be involved in many exciting projects, including cycling and walking initiatives and public transport projects (such as the Greater Manchester Bee Network and Quality Bus Transit) as well as helping to deliver TfGM’s vision as set out in our 2040 Strategy. You will also be involved in designing and implementing adaptive signal networks and will work alongside experienced ITS and UTC Engineers, allowing you to develop in your role.
Occasionally you will also be required to work out of office hours including at weekends to help manage traffic at events.
About You
You will be keen to develop your knowledge of the principles of traffic and transportation and have experience of using computer systems.
You will have an enquiring mind with the ability to use numbers and data to provide solutions to complex problems and the flexibility to adapt to changing workload demands and new organisational challenges.
