    The role

    As a Band 2 Engineer you will have an understanding of Track engineering, with a good knowledge of TfL and wider industry theory and practice. Successful applicants will have some experience of providing professional engineering support to projects in an engineering organisation.

    Working in the Track Design team, you will be involved with a wide range of P.Way design works, using the track design software to produce drawings from the feasibility of the early stage works to detailed construction phases. Day-to-day, you will be delivering technical solutions for stakeholders across the business and providing track design and technical guidance to Operational and Delivery Units.

    You will also work as part of the wider Track Engineering Team, as part of the training there will be opportunities to work on gauging, project engineering, maintenance and configuration of track across the TfL estate, supporting the operation of the railway and gain appreciation and knowledge within the TfL organisation.

    You will need to understand how the track design team operates within project delivery and be able to understand complex issues but be able to communicate this to a wide range of stakeholders within the overall TfL structure. You will be expected to continue to develop your expertise within the team.

    Essential skills, knowledge & experience

    Skills

    • Strong analytical and assessment skills
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to creatively solve problems – establishing solutions with existing resources

    Knowledge

    • Ideally for graduates with Engineering degrees, or higher education equivalent with rail experiences
    • Good knowledge and understanding of engineering theory and principles
    • Good understanding of the track assets and the railway sector

    Experience

    • Experience of collaborating across teams and in different asset areas
    • Experience of developing and delivering technical projects/solutions
    • Experience of Permanent Way / Track Engineering
