Job overview
We’re seeking talented individuals across a range of disciplines and backgrounds to help us achieve our vision of a greener, healthier, more sustainable London. Our Sustainability Graduates could work in almost any part of TfL and will have strong focus on applying sustainability principles and practices within their roles including help with developing new tools and process where they are lacking. You will be fully supported to do this through a network of existing sustainability professionals you can talk to and sustainability specific training.
What you'll be doing
As a graduate, your two-year development programme will incorporate up to four placement rotations. You'll gain experience across a range of different roles and will approach them through the lens of sustainability. You will work with sponsor to agree the best placements and experience for you.
The positive impact you’ll have at TfL
The climate and ecological crisis is the defining challenge for humanity. London is at the centre of the global effort to address this, including the Mayor’s world-leading goal of a Zero Carbon London by 2030.
Our purpose is to move London forward safely, inclusively and sustainably. To be the strong green heartbeat for London.
If you want to have an impact, TfL has the scale and breadth for you to do so.
We run most of London’s public transport services, including the London Underground, London Buses, the DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line, London Trams, London River Services, London Dial-a-Ride, Victoria Coach Station, Santander Cycles and the London Cable Car. We also regulate taxi and private hire vehicles in London and manage the city’s red route strategic roads (which carry 30% of London’s traffic).
We work in collaboration with authorities across all the London boroughs to help shape the character of London’s streets – creating more places for people to walk, cycle and spend time socialising in order to reduce car dependency, improve air quality, revitalise town centres, boost businesses and connect communities.
We are also a developer with a portfolio of property investments. We’re working to deliver 20,000 new homes (50% of which are affordable) through a subsidiary of our business, and we’re doing so with sustainability at the heart of our projects.
We employee 27,000 people directly and over 100,000 through contracted services. We are London’s third biggest landowner with a 6,000-acre estate, a third of which is covered with vegetation. We own 6,500 buildings and we are London’s second biggest landlord with over 2,500 tenanted properties. We’re the biggest user of electricity in London, using over 1.5 terawatt hours of electricity a year. We work with an annual budget of around £11bn, £6.7bn of which is spent in our supply chain. If you want to make a difference to sustainability, TfL is one of the best places to do so.
