    Are you looking for a new and challenging role supporting industry to overcome challenges related to welding across a range of different sectors and companies? If so, TWI is currently seeking highly motivated applicants to support its industrial members meet their ever-changing challenges. Ideally with at least a basic knowledge of metallurgy, we are seeking applicants with an interest in welding and a drive for personal development to achieve the EWF/IIW Welding Diploma at Engineer level, qualified experienced candidates will also be considered.

    Initial work will include specifying and estimating project work with support from colleagues and coordinating trials with associated reporting. As your experience develops, the work will include office based consultancy support and welding reviews, short notice requests for site support, process development and validation activities through to opportunities to work on research topics related to materials performance and robotic welding, including additive manufacturing.

    The role

    The AWE Section delivers a broad range of projects to an international customer base, often with demanding requirements, including welding engineer support, software development and welding/additive manufacture process development, and is seeking to profitably grow its business in the energy, defence and electrification sectors as well as developing oil & gas and construction engineering opportunities.

    As a Welding Engineer in our team, you will propose, manage and deliver projects for our customers, as well as supporting day-to-day customer enquiries. To be successful, you will need to show:

    • An ability to understand and assess technical problems, enabling you to generate solutions through application of process knowledge, experimental trials and process development.
    • The ability to identify and develop leads during technical conversations and to generate ideas for internal/external/collaborative development projects.
    • Excellent planning and organisation skills applicable to scoping, launch and delivery of projects to time, cost and quality targets.
    • Close collaboration with engineering and technical support colleagues to meet customer expectations.
    • Effective communication through various media (written, verbal & IT) to support business development, customer enquiries and project delivery in a direct customer-facing role.
    • Hands-on approach, with excellent problem investigation and resolution skills.
    • Good project leadership/coordination for planning and delivering client-based projects.
    • Ability to juggle competing demands with management support.

    About you

    Knowledge and experience in the following areas is preferable but not essential:

    • Arc welding processes and metallurgy.
    • Mechanised, automated and robotic arc welding systems.
    • Previous industry experience.

    We offer full initial and on-going training. This will include both theoretical and hands-on training, including longer-term development towards a European or International Welding Engineer Certification.
