Role overview

This role will primarily focus on learning and developing the basic audit and accounting skills through studying towards an ACA professional qualification where you can expect to hit the ground running in your studies, whilst gaining practical experience in the workplace with the benefit of early responsibility to reach your maximum potential.

Over the duration of your studies, which typically lasts 3 years with first time passes, your professional exam training is provided by BPP. Our experienced Technical and Training team work closely with the professional tutors to monitor your progress and offer great support and guidance that you will need to pass your exams. Alongside the professional qualification, we offer in-house training to complement your studies but develop core skills that are needed in the workplace to succeed. 

You will primarily support the audit assistant managers and managers on audit assignments. You will also be expected to demonstrate strong communication skills and professionalism when attending the client site. Once qualified you will have further opportunities for development, including and not limited to technical updates, personal development and management training but the opportunity to continue to engage in stimulating work across varied sectors.

Job description

As a trainee, your typical daily duties will include;

  • Checking a client’s financial information, purchase and sales invoices;
  • Checking bank balances and bank statements;
  • Reviewing client payroll records for accuracy;
  • Ensure sound knowledge of a client and its industry by researching background information and useful publications;
  • Develop communication skills and build relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Utilise audit software;
  • Attend client meetings and social activities;
  • Develop and apply technical knowledge gained from studies and on the job experience;
  • Attend in-house technical training as required;
  • Ensure timesheets are completed on a weekly basis.

Working arrangements

The working week: 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday) to be worked from 9.00AM to 5.30PM with occasionally some flexibility of hours to meet specific work demands

Location: Your principal work base is our Nottingham Office. However, you will be required to spend time working at client premises and studying for your professional examinations.

Training

  • The firm provides full support, study leave and tuition costs, for the first attempts at all the exams and assessments that go towards the Level 7 Accountancy Professional Apprenticeship with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) qualification. With first time passes, it takes three years to complete your studies. Tuition is given by one of the leading external providers.
  • We also provide practical training internally. Immediately on joining us, you receive two weeks of training in accounting, our business language, and in auditing. This lays the foundation for your first year’s practical experience.
